Whereas it is not a racing discipline, freeride windsurfing is probably the most common shortboarding discipline. Freeride boards range between 90 and 150 liters and are designed for early planing and maximum maneuverability mainly through wind power in contrast to wave boards that are designed to better handle riding waves. Freeride sails have 5-7 battens, and usually lacks cambers. However, some sailmakers make freeride/freerace sails with narrower luff sleeves than slalom races.
